i guess i did not mention in the previous post about the drastic weather change in China. the first 2 days was still alright and manageable but the weather decided to change and dip to a freezing temperature from the 3rd day onwards. nobody was expecting that and we did not bring enough clothings. hence, many of us were down and fell ill. we could not run away from the fever and flu bug. me included.

anyhow, we went to China International Furniture Fair on the 7th day. it is a trade fair, just like those that we have in Singapore. but before we entered, we had to wait outside in the freezing cold weather for our pass to enter. it was quite a long wait and you can see teeth chattering during the llloonngg wait. when we stepped in, the impression that i have is very similar as to that of our local Suntec City Convention Centre and Expo Convention Halls. the place is huge and many companies displayed their furniture strategically, catching the attention of all the potential buyers/clients. i went there and cant help but observe how each company try different methods to catch the attention of the people, be it their attractive signs/logos, or the display of their furniture and the way they design their booth.

one of the outstanding designs in the trade fair that caught my eye
later in the day, we went to Yong Xiang furniture company. it was a very 'furniture day' for us. we were really very surprised at how low the cost is to produce sofas. this company custom-make sofas. we could pass the design that we desire to them, and they will produce it for you. few of the teachers were even harbouring the thought of exporting it to Singapore and be a supplier in Singapore to sell these sofas. what caught my attention during the visit is their marketing strategy. in fact, they dont spend much effort promoting their products. the only few marketing efforts done is through the web and participating in trade fairs. which was pretty amazing because they still get the business that they need despite little marketing efforts. their sofas were really pretty and cheap that we started to joke about buying 1 set each and shipping it back. if we could, i guess we would. :)

final product!
yup! it's us again. testing the sofas :)
